Pfingstegg at a glance
Pfingstegg is the small mountain on the south side of the Grindelwald valley. It is the shortest cable car ride in the area and the easiest half day out from the village. The top station at 1,387 metres has a summer toboggan run, the Fly-Line zip line and the start of two well-known trails: one down via Milchbach to the Upper Glacier, and one up the UNESCO themed trail to Bäregg.
Because the ride is short and cheap, Pfingstegg works well for families, for a first afternoon after arrival or for a day when the higher areas are in cloud. The valley station is a 15-minute walk from Grindelwald station, or about 5 minutes by bus to the stop Grindelwald, Pfingsteggbahn.

Pfingstegg cable car: prices 2026
Pfingstegg has its own price rules. It is one of the few lifts in Grindelwald where the Jungfrau Travel Pass only gives a discount, while the Berner Oberland Pass makes it free.
| Ticket (adults unless stated) | One way | Return |
|---|---|---|
| Standard fare | CHF 20 | CHF 32 |
| Half Fare Card, GA or Swiss Travel Pass | CHF 10 | CHF 16 |
| Guest card or Jungfrau Travel Pass | CHF 17 | CHF 27.20 |
| Berner Oberland Pass | free | free |
| Children 6 to 15 | CHF 10 | CHF 16 |
If you are relying on the Jungfrau Travel Pass, plan for the reduced fare here rather than a free ride. With the Swiss Travel Pass or a Half Fare Card you pay the lowest paid price.
Season and opening hours 2026
The 2026 season runs from 25 April to 25 October. From 26 October the cable car is on its winter break and does not run in winter. The 2027 season has already been published: 5 May to 24 October 2027.
In the high season from 6 June to 30 August, cars go up every 15 minutes between 8.30 am and 6.45 pm, and the last ride down is at 7 pm. In the low season they run every 20 minutes from 9 am to 5.40 pm, with the last ride down at 6 pm. There is no need to book a time.

The summer toboggan run
The toboggan run is the main reason many families go up. It is 725 metres long, and a lift pulls you and the sledge back up to the start, so there is no walking between rides.
| Ticket | Price 2026 |
|---|---|
| Single ride, adults | CHF 8 |
| Single ride, children 8 to 15 | CHF 6 |
| Single ride, children 4 to 7 | CHF 2, only together with an adult |
| 6 rides, adults | CHF 43 |
| 10 rides, adults | CHF 72 |
Age rules
Children under 4 are not allowed on the run. Children aged 4 to 7 may only ride together with an adult. From 8 to 15 years the child price of CHF 6 applies.
No discounts
The toboggan run gives no discount for the GA, the Half Fare Card, the guest card or any regional pass. Budget the full price even if your cable car ride was free.
Hours and weather
In 2026 the run opened on 22 May. It operates from 10 am to 5 pm, and from 9.30 am to 6 pm in high season. It closes when the track is wet, and you cannot reserve rides.
Fly-Line
The Fly-Line is a zip line of about 350 metres. A ride takes around two and a half minutes, and you hang up to 12 metres above the ground. Check the price at the top station.
Hikes from Pfingstegg: Milchbach and Bäregg
Both trails start at the top station. They are short, but neither is a stroll: plan for proper shoes and check conditions before you set off.
Pfingstegg to Milchbach and the Upper Glacier
About one hour, mostly downhill, via Milchbach and through the Breitlouwina tunnel to the Upper Glacier at Hotel Wetterhorn, where you catch the bus back to the village. You need to be sure-footed, and the trail crosses rockfall zones. Do not stop in those sections.
UNESCO themed trail to Bäregg
About one and a half hours one way and two and a half to three hours there and back. As a loop the route is around 5.6 kilometres, 2 hours 25 minutes, with about 430 metres of ascent. It leads towards the Lower Glacier.
Safety notes
Both routes are mountain trails, not promenades. Sure footing matters, and the Milchbach route crosses rockfall zones. Respect closures, turn back if the path looks damaged, and do not take small children who cannot walk safely on their own.
Hiking in Grindelwald →Late season
The Berghaus Bäregg is on its winter break from 11 October 2026. In October 2025 the trail to Bäregg was closed after the hut shut for the season. Check locally before you go in autumn.
